The 16 Best Long Range electric scooters [20-90 Miles]

  • Read Time: 15 min

If you need a long-range electric scooter, you might wonder what to look for apart from good battery life, since you will spend some time on your kick scooter going from A to B. Things such as cruise control, Bluetooth, dual or single motor option, LED lights, LED display, suspension system, shock absorbers, as well as tires all play a part.

However, many people are using e-scooters today for their daily commute as well as for other purposes, and they happily share their thoughts on their performance online. So the real mileage to be expected is readily available from all these "real life" users.

When it comes to electric kick scooters, long range can be a question of interpretation, but we think 20 or 20 plus miles (32 km) is considered long range for such a small vehicle.

Therefore we focus on the best top ten long-range electric scooters on the market today.

Long Range Electric Scooters - How far can they go?

Some e-scooters today can go very far, actually further than you need them to. After all, who needs to travel 90 miles (144 km) on an electric kick scooter between charges? Some of the scooters in our line-up are actually capable of that range, like the NAMI BURN E2 and the WOLF KING GT PRO.

But for the more reasonably priced versions out there, the ones most people will use, the range varies and many factors are to be considered. Riding style, rider weight, topography, road conditions, eco mode riding, as well as ambient temperatures all play a part.

Many e-scooters come with two options of batteries. The size and type of battery are key components and also the reason why the same e-scooter can jump up in price depending on which battery option you go for.

We will give you the true expected range as experienced in real-world riding so you can choose the best electric scooter for you.

However, keep in mind that the range of electric scooters varies a lot depending on riding style, terrain and the weight of the rider. Our estimates of the max range you can get are based on the average rider weight of 165 lbs (75 kg) and with eco-mode riding.

How to choose the right long-range electric scooter

Want to know how to get what is right for you when it comes to buying any vehicle including an electric scooter?

Three words… "identify your needs."

- What are your needs and primary purposes?
- Do you need a very long-range e-scooter or can you make do with a smaller package?
- Is your commute very long?
- Can you charge it at work?
- Will you ride in urban areas or more open road conditions?- Is top speed important?
- Is size important?
- Do you want it to be foldable?

20 miles (32 km) is a range that quite a few number of smaller e-scooters can deliver. If you want or need more you will have to go up in size and price except...for the Mosquito which is the exception to the rule and impresses with its performance although it is a super portable lightweight inner-city commuter. Read more about it below.

But let's start from the top and the big guns.

Nami Burn E 2 Max - 90 miles

The Most Innovative Ultra Long Range Scooter Ever Built

Weight Limit: 330 lbs / 150 kgDisplay: feature-loaded color smart displayBattery Position: Under Board

This is one of the longest-range electric scooters you can get your hands on today. You might consider it as an alternative to a motorcycle.

Lots of performance due to dual 1500W/8400W peak power motors and a 72V 32Ah battery pack which means a top speed of 60 mph (96 kph) and a max range of 90 miles (144 km). 30% inclines are also on the menu for this beast scooter.

In real-world riding and not being conservative at all, you will be closer to 50 miles (80 km) of range. Worth noting is that it is programmed to switch to ECO mode when the remaining battery power reaches 25%. But you can set this to your preference as low as you like. That allows you to go flat out until the last ounce of power is drained.

The ride quality is one of the best of all e-scooters which is a good thing considering the extreme long range it is capable of.

Adjustable front and rear hydraulic coil-shock suspension and 11-inch air-filled tires help create that wonderful intuitive handling and control over your vehicle.

The controllers also allow you to set up the acceleration to your liking. Do you prefer it to be buttery smooth or do you like drag racing?

Such a big and fast e-scooter needs proper brakes and 160 mm dual disc brakes with fully hydraulic four-piston callipers are exactly that. You will be able to stop on a dime. Make sure that you have your braking technique perfected. Lean backwards and bend your knees. And never ever!! ride with your feet parallel. Make sure you ride like on a skate or snowboard. One foot in front of the other.

Adjustable regenerative braking is also part of the package.

It is big and weighs 103 lbs (47 kg) yet the stem can be folded if you should need to transport it in the trunk of a big car. But the buyers and users of the E2 Max will probably rarely do that. As we mentioned, this is an alternative to a motorcycle that can take you on very long-distance rides and portability is not of importance in this case.

It recharges in 7-8 hours. Opting for an additional fast charger will half that time.

Through and through the NAMI Burn E2 Max is one of, if not the best long-range scooters with high build quality you can get your hands on today.

PROS

  • Incredible Performance
  • Awesome looks & Design
  • Very high range

CONS

  • Can be awkward to fold

"Nami Burn-E Max"
"I have recently bought this scooter to commute to work. Let me tell you this thing is a beast of a scooter! It gets me to work just as fast as a car on a bike lane. I’m so glad I bought it. I haven’t payed for gas in two weeks for work. To me thats just incredible! It has range and ton of power! Its such a joy to ride! 💯🛴"

Another 90 mile (144 km) range contender is the Wolf King GT pro. And this is the one you will or should choose if you need to ride off-road or on otherwise less than perfect surfaces. This is an e-scooter that demands the rider knows what he or she is doing and what it is capable of on dirt trails and off-road bumps.

All the Wolfs have a dual motorcycle-style hydraulic shock up front as opposed to a single stem that we are used to on e-scooters. This allows for a lot of riding on rougher roads at high speed if you have the skills to match.

And the ride is brilliant with very high ground clearance, a longer stem with extra wide handlebarsas well as 11-inch puncture-proof tubeless air-filled tires.

But remember, treat the Wolf King with respect as it has massive amounts of power. Dual 2000W/7200W peak power motors in combination with 50A sinewave controllers and a 72V 35Ah battery pack make this the fastest production e-scooter in the world.

The Top speed is 62 mph (100 kph) and the acceleration is scary. It reaches 30 mph (48 kph) in just under four seconds. It will spin its front wheel even on tarmac if you are not careful when gunning the thumb throttle.

In real-world riding, you can still get around 53 miles (85 km) of actual range. And you will leave a lot of other commuters in the dust, whatever they are travelling in.

Thankfully, it has numerous various p settings and options to make it behave exactly to your liking. It can be a smooth operator if you want it to.

The dual fully hydraulic disc brakes are equally world-class and stopping power can be controlled by your fingertips.

The type of performance the King is capable of renders it and other similarly powered e-scooters the "beast" monicker. Also because they are not lightweight and could never be. The scale won't stop until it hits 120 lbs (54 kg) with the King. So no, even if it can be folded, you won't carry it many times, if at all.

It is an astonishing e-scooter and if you are serious about long-range models and want something you can rely on to take a beating even if the roads are rough or even worse, then this is it.

The only decision you need to make is if you want it delivered with street or off-road tires.

PROS

  • Fastest electric scooter
  • Incredibly high range
  • Great stability at high speeds

CONS

  • Big & Heavy

"Probably the best scooter on earth!"
"Sadly I had some issues that happened during shipping and the guy that delivered it to me seemed lazy and upset that he had to deal with such a heavy package and my disc brakes were bent. I discovered that there's no repair shops within over 200 miles of me that works on escooters so I regretfully had to return this beautiful specimen. Had it get up to 72mph with some software tweaking. Most fun I ever had standing on 2 feet! Make sure you're good at fixing these things up or have a local location that will work on them before buying."

The Wolf Warrior is also a beast of an electric scooter. Just by looking at it, you can tell its intended use of purpose. And it looks very similar to its bigger brother the King GT Pro. At a glance, it takes a trained eye to spot the immediate differences.

This is also a high-performance off-road monster that will reach a top speed of 50 mph (80 kph), has a real-life range of 42 miles (67 km), and will also spin the front wheel under acceleration on tarmac. Be careful or make sure to choose a smoother p setting. Plenty of options are available.

In eco mode and with conservative riding, you can get 70 miles (112 km)! Ripping it up on some dirt tracks at full throttle you will probably get less. But you won't care.

Honestly, you don't buy this one for its massively long mile range. You don't need a dual motor of 1200 watts with a peak power output of 5400 Watts that can tackle steep inclines of 30% to get from A to B. Unless you live in Alaska's wilderness that is.

This is such a wonderful machine with a fully hydraulic brake system and with an option to activate ABS mode. The acceleration is insane. That will probably be one reason you won’t be able to hold back and preserve the battery.

It is foldable but it weighs 105 lbs (47 kg).

If for one or another reason, however, you decide that this is your long-range commuter of choice, and you only intend to ride on flat smooth surfaces, make sure to get the optional street tires instead of the knobby off-road rubbers.

If you want to find out just how awesome the Wolf Warrior is, read about the Wolf tackling Tibet on what must be one of the longest e-scooter rides to date. It covers the epic 1367 miles (2200 km) long journey over mountainous terrain.

PROS

  • Great range capacity
  • A lot of power
  • Available in off road & street tires

CONS

  • Can be a bit tricky to fold

"Wolf Warrior 11 Review (1+ year experience)"
"I love it. The freedom of mobility it provides (going from sidewalks, to bike lanes, to roads, to off road), at the speeds it provides, is unmatched. Of course, you got to be an excellent driver if you're going to ride this thing responsibly. It's definitely not for everyone. Riding this thing to work and back for a combined 10 mile travel time has sharpened my driving skills for sure, but the learning curve is significant, especially if you have no experience using an electric scooter before using this. Got to take it slow and put in the time to familiarize yourself with the Wolf Warrior and the various types of road conditions you'll face, before you start getting loose and crank up the speed. Lots of fun. Worth a buy if you're looking to ride a cool-looking monster on a wide variety of terrain."

Weight Limit: 265 lbs / 120 kgDisplay: Adv. thumb throttle displayBattery Position: Under Board

Inokim is setting benchmarks as far as electric scooter innovation and superb build quality goes. Some reviewers think this is as close to perfection as you can get on an e-scooter.The OXO is a fast scooter and it has plenty of power although not on the level of the ones described above.

Dual 1000W/2600W peak power motors will reach a top speed of 40 mph (64 kph) and the 60V 26Ah battery pack will give you a range of 52 miles (84 km).

Mile range in real-world conditions, meaning riding at high speed, with multiple starts and stops and not worrying about preserving battery, is around 30 miles (48 km).

The ride quality, however, is where it shines. The adjustable suspension is fantastic and you feel very much in control as everything is super smooth and also, very quiet. It truly whispers away.

What about that suspension though? Well, this is probably the first time you will have seen a single-sided swing arm system on an e-scooter. Not only does it work wonders for the ride quality, but it also makes changing the 10-inch air-filled tires so much easier, and, it looks stunning, especially from the right side.

This also means that it will be comfortable on some off-road ventures. As expected with such a fast scooter, fully hydraulic dual disc brakes are part of the package.

It does fold but handlebars do not and it weighs 74 lbs (33,5 kg).

It looks and feels stunning in black and orange livery, offering a lot of scooter for the money. It will appeal to perfectionists and those who are looking for that little bit extra.

PROS

  • Adjustable suspension
  • Can tackle any terrain
  • Brilliant build quality

CONS

  • Large & very heavy

"Absolutely Amazing!!!"
"I was going back and forth on either the OX or OXO. Trust me, spend the extra. It’s a little scary using both motors at first. But once you get used to it (took a few miles) you’ll be glad for the extra power. You can keep right up with traffic and even out pace traffic in certain areas. You can also turn off the front motor and then it’s basically an OX. I came from riding a gotrax and being at the mercy of other drivers. Not anymore!!! And I almost forgot about the range. I’m on the bigger side. First day out I did 24 miles and still had 2 bars and no noticeable power reduction. Also I wasn’t being easy on the throttle. I’m sure I could get 40+ in single motor being easy on it. All said, just buy it. You won’t regret it."

INOKIM OX - 52 miles

An electric scooter perfect for long range cruising

Discover the long range cruising scooter - INOKIM OX
Table header 0Table header 1Table header 2
Motor: 800W base / 1300W peakTires: 10" x 2.5" air tires

Weight Limit: 265 lbs / 120 kgDisplay: Adv. thumb throttle displayBattery Position: Under Board

An option to the OXO explained above and staying within the brand is the smaller sibling OX. The same ride and build quality although with less performance but also 1000$ cheaper. It comes in two versions, Hero and Super, where the battery pack is the main difference. Here we will cover the Super.

The OX has a single rear 800W/1300W peak power hub motor good for a top speed of 28 mph (45 kph) and the 60V 21 Ah battery will be able to produce a 46-mile (74 km) range.

The acceleration is smooth and calibrated not to be jerky. Many riders prefer that.If you ride less conservatively, you can expect slightly above 21 miles (34 km) of range.

The ride is of the same phenomenal quality as the OXO. The same adjustable suspension system. The same clever single-sided swingarm allows for easy access when changing tires or wheels. It sits on 10-inch air-filled tires.

Off-road and dirt trails are welcome and will not be an issue if not too demanding.

The dual braking system is where you will find a difference as the OX is fitted with a front drum and rear disc brake as opposed to OXO:s dual disc system. Not that you would notice. The brakes are perfect and more than adequate for this type of scooter. You feel in total control and it stops very effectively.

The stem folds while the handlebars do not. For higher capacity scooters, this is the norm as it minimizes the risk of stem wobble. It weighs 61 lbs (28 kg) which is manageable but still quite heavy for repeated carrying.

The OX is not for thrill seekers but rather the everyday user who wants reliability, a great ride and build quality, and is happy with a top speed of 28 mph (45 kph).

PROS

  • Adjustable suspension
  • Incredibly comfortable ride

CONS

  • Very heavy
  • Kick & Go always enabled

"Reliable and steadfast"
"This is a great electric scooter. It is not trying to be the fastest in the market, but it is the most stead fast and consistent. The speed is quick, but does not feel dangerous. It has enough torque to get up steep hills with ease, even under the load of an adult and child. We get over 22 real miles Per charge."

The Kaboo Mantis is another one of our absolute favourites as it offers a tremendous amount of e-scooter for the money you pay.

Here we might have the perfect mix between an everyday commuter and a fun weekend warrior. It will handle trails and some off-road action in a high-performance fashion, still be portable yet not massively heavy with its 65 lbs (29 kg).

10" x 2.5" pneumatic tires, shock absorbers by way of front and rear spring arm suspension, semi hydraulic double disc brakes on the Base version, and fully hydraulic double disc brakes on the PRO version make this a high-performance e-scooter.

And you can go long distances if you want to.

The Base version has a claimed manufacturer range of approximately 45 miles (72 km) if you ride in single eco motor mode, and as economically as possible.

But in real-world riding, with steep hills, frequent starts and stops, going at max speed (37 mph-60 km/h) when possible, with a rider that weighs 165 lbs (75 kg), it managed 29 miles (46,9 km).

If you opt for the PRO version you get a bigger battery and can extend the mile range to 45 miles (72 km). Maybe one of the best overall long-range electric scooters on the market today.

PROS

  • Multiple driving settings
  • Works great on trails
  • Excellent suspension

CONS

  • Handlebars does not fold

"Best electric scooter I ever tried"
"
After testing and reviewing more than 30 different electric scooters (including the Kaabo Mantis), I can confidently say, it's the best electric scooter I ever tried. The hydraulic brakes are extremely smooth, the suspension is next-level and the sheer acceleration and speed is beyond thrilling. If you're in the market for a high-end electric scooter, I highly recommend the Mantis."

The Wolf Warrior covered above, is such a popular e-scooter and hailed for its performance much due to the stability of the dual stem that Kaabo, the manufacturer behind the Wolf brand, decided to try the double stem concept on a smaller package. And in doing so, they might have accidentally come up with something even better than the original Warrior. Or?

Well, if you are below 218 lbs (99kg) then you might consider the X.

And you can choose between two versions of battery capacity.

- The Standard with a 60V 21Ah battery or the PRO with a bigger 60V 28Ah battery pack.
- The range respectively is 40 miles (64 kph) and 52 miles (84 km) for the PRO.

They are similar in top speed with the Standard actually a bit faster than the PRO. 44/41 mph (71/66 kph) respectively due to the standards higher 30A capacity controllers paired with the 60V 21Ah battery pack. The range for the standard is 40 miles (64 km).

But the PRO's bigger 60V 28Ah battery with 27A controllers means a 50-mile range (80 km) is within reach.

Dual 1100W/3500W peak power motors provide plenty of acceleration and make the Warrior X among the ten fastest scooters uphill in the world.

The ride quality is also fantastic and some experts say it is world-class. You can ride for long distances without tiring at all. Fully hydraulic disc brakes, regen braking and 10-inch air-filled split rim tires is the way to go.

- 12-14 hours to recharge or 4 hours with a fast charger.
- It weighs 79 lbs (36 kg) and has a max weight of 265 lbs (120 kg).

A perfect choice if the regular Wolf Warrior 11 feels a step too much.

PROS

  • Excellent power to weight ratio
  • Fantastic stability
  • Incredibly comfortable ride

CONS

  • Side lights can be fragile

"fun all arounder"
"After trying out the Mosquito I realized the fun factor far outweighed the utility for me, so I traded up for the Wolf Warrior X. I wanted something that could handle some off road use, had decent range, and could haul a heavier (240 lbs) rider up moderate hills. This scooter is really fun to cruise around the trails and bike paths of the bay area. Kinda feels like a powered mountain bike. Instead of doing a scooter/bart commute I now do a scooter/ferry commute and definitely feel like it's boosted my quality of life. In eco/dual motor mode it has great range and doesn't go above 15mph which is perfect for commuting."

Mercane gave us the Widewheel of course and now they surprise us with the Jubel. A lightweight everyday commuter that looks cool and also performs well. A standout feature is the larger 12-inch air-filled tires. In order to keep the weight down, this is a suspensionless scooter and the tires being bigger help with providing a smooth and stable ride.

Similar scooters usually have smaller tires that can make the ride less stable. Not so on the Jubel. This is perfect for beginners who might feel a bit insecure or unsafe as the ride on these bigger tires is so much better. The wide rubberized deck also helps with stability.

Rear wheel drive, 800W/1000W peak power is good for a top speed of 25 mph (40 kph).

It has a 40-mile range (64 km) with a 48V 15Ah battery pack. In real-world riding, you should be able to get 35 miles (56 km). Recharging time is 8-10 hours. The Jubel is very portable. Folding it is quick and it only weighs 48 lbs (22 kg).

Very good stopping power as well from the dual brake system. Drum brake up front and disc brake in the rear as well as regen brake.

A large bright display and comfortable handlebar grips and thumb throttle are all part of a great package that enhances the ride quality on those 12-inch tires.

A solid choice, capable of 40 miles in the city.

PROS

  • Large tires
  • Great brakes
  • Very long range

CONS

  • Slightly limited on power

A very strong contender as one of the best electric scooters you can buy is the Apollo Phantom V2. Feedback from thousands of riders was put into the design process to deliver the best possible riding experience.

This is a scooter that doesn't need any upgrades or aftermarket add-ons. The big bright display is on a new level. Wide comfortable handlebars, perfectly calibrated thumb throttle, and even the lights package is phenomenal. The list goes on.

The 40-mile range (64 km) will be one of the most comfortable you can experience on an e-scooter.

This is much due to the adjustable quadruple spring suspension and how everything gels so well when you ride. The ergonomics from the handlebar, the spacious deck, the design of the thumb throttle, the big and easy-to-read display all make it very intuitive and effortless to control.

TOUVT 10 x 3.25-inch air-filled tires are probably the best in the world fitted to an electric scooter. The feeling of control is simply stunning.

Dual 1200W/3200W peak power motors will give a top speed of 38 mph (61 kph). It is fast from a standstill as well although not in a jerky way. Zero to 15 mph (24 kph) takes three seconds.

A big 52V 23.4Ah battery pack does add weight and the scale stops at 77 lbs (35 kg) for the Phantom. You can fold it but the handlebars stay out so you need a big trunk if you should transport it in a car.

You have the option of no less than three braking systems to choose from, standard disc brakes, ZOOM hydraulic disc brakes or NUTT hydraulic disc brakes. Whichever you choose, the braking is world-class.

Everything about the Phantom is premium. The ride and build quality is top class. No wonder it has been named the "Most Innovative Electric Scooter Of The Year" by experts.

PROS

  • Beautiful design & unique looks
  • Excellent display
  • Very smooth ride

CONS

  • No front turn signals

 "Love this scooter!"
"The power, acceleration and top speed are tremendous. The suspension smooths out most bumps. The braking system works very well. So far, the range and top end speed is as advertised."

For fans of the WideWheel and that particular ride quality, there is now an alternative that will allow for some trails and off-roads as well.

The Mantis 8 PRO with its 8 x 3,1 inch (20 x 8 cm) wide tubeless air-filled tires is a phenomenal alternative to both the Widewheel and its bigger sibling Mantis V2.

It is a proper fast e-scooter with top speed and acceleration plenty enough to leave others behind yet it doesn't spin its front wheel rabidly under acceleration. Max speed is an impressive 33 mph (53 kph) which you will reach from a standstill in about 12 seconds.

Dual 800W/2600W peak power motors also mean it is very strong even on steeper hills and the 48V 24Ah battery pack will take you 40 miles (64 km). In real-world riding, it will be closer to 28 miles (45 km).

The ride quality is top notch and the Mantis 8 is yet another e-scooter that feels super fun to ride allowing for jumping off curbs and going trough corners with confidence. It has a dual spring suspension which according to some experts is one of the best they've tried.

Adjustable regen braking and fully hydraulic dual disc Zoom brakes are also super effective and add to that great ride quality and feeling of control. The stem is foldable while handlebars aren't and it weighs 60 lbs (27 kg).

Who will want or need this scooter? Not necessarily the everyday inner-city commuter person, but rather the one looking for high performance although still "civil" and not scary fast, that can also be ridden on trails and less than perfect surfaces.

PROS

  • Long range
  • Excellent power to weight ratio
  • Very smooth ride

CONS

  • Stiffer suspension than the Mantis base model

"Comfortable and confident!"
"I got this scooter for my wife, but I've been riding it more. Honestly, I really like this scooter. It's the single motor model and it's a very comfortable and confident ride! I'm 220lbs and for me the acceleration is very comfortable. I've gotten to 29mph on it, I'm sure a smaller individual would get a higher top speed and faster. It's not a crazy performing scooter, but that's what makes it nice. I own a Dualtron Storm and Nanrobot D6+, but I really like this as a comfortable cruiser. The suspension is a little stiff but the ride makes me feel very confident going at speed. I get no speed wobble and I don't feel like I gotta worry about the tires popping since they're tubeless. It's not a heavy scooter and can be carried from point A to point B with relative ease. Really this is a sweet scooter that I'd take for a very comfortable and confident cruise anywhere!"

The Apollo Explore is a very interesting electric scooter designed with a specific target user in mind. Someone who plans to ride a lot, mostly commuting.

Here we have an excellent advanced commuter scooter that manages great performance with a single 1000W/1400W peak power motor on the rear wheel. It will do 31 mph (50 kph) and the 52V 18.2Ah is good for 35 miles (56 km) of range and it is an avid hill climber as well.

It is a crossover between practicality and performance. The telescoping stem and handlebars fold into a neat package but it still weighs 52 lbs (24 kg) so not exactly lightweight. It is one of the most portable scooters in its class though.

But that's how it is when you get these types of performance figures. Until someone invents a super lightweight high performance battery, we will not see "flyweight" numbers on bigger scooters.

The ride is superb and that is due to dual spring suspension and 10-inch air-filled tires as well as a spacious deck with plenty of foot space. Dual disc brakes, adjustable regen braking and a lot of options to configure your preferred acceleration, cruise control setting and zero start.

The build quality is excellent and this is a scooter that you can use daily, quickly fold and stow away in a corner or bring onto public transport. With an optional fast charger, it will recharge in 4 hours.

All these pros and the specific design of the Apollo Explore make it in some cases the only option for the person who knows exactly what they need and is looking for.

PROS

  • Long range
  • High top speed
  • Excellent brakes

CONS

  • Heavy for its class

"Just get it!"
"At the time of ordering it seems like i wasnt alone! These things were selling like hotcakes. Very happy with my purchase and the customer service from Fluid. Responsive and knowledgeable. Received notification on shipments of all my orders. Would highly recommend any scooter depending your flavor. BE A KID AGAIN - Where a helmet!! 10/10 Apollo Explore!"

Top Speed: 25 MphLights: Front and rear LEDDrive: rear wheel drive
Weight Limit: 220 lbs / 100 kgDisplay: Bright advanced displayBattery Position: Under Board

The latest version of the Inokims Quick series has even more to offer than their already brilliant Quick 3. The Quick series is similar to Inokim’s Light series but offers more performance and is the choice to go for if you are looking for more power and a higher max rider weight tolerance. This one will accept 220 lbs (100kg) of rider.

Powered by a 600W/900W peak power motor on the rear wheel it will reach a max speed of 25 mph (40 kph) and it will manage a 25-mile range (40 km) on a single charge. A battery charge is 7-8 hours on the 52V 16Ah Samsung.

It has a smooth acceleration easily controlled by the thumb throttle, a large center-placed display showing all the relevant info and possibilities to set up cruise control, speed settings and so forth.

Pneumatic 10-inch tires and a dual suspension system give a very smooth ride and also allow for some gravel and grass riding, if not outright off-road. The wheelbase is quite short which makes it snappy around corners but feels a bit less stable at top speed.

Very solid braking is provided by the dual drum brakes.

Extremely portable and quick to do so, hence the name, it has a telescoping stem that helps the whole procedure.

A very versatile e-scooter that can be used for everyday commutes as well as fun rides.

PROS

  • Very easy folding in seconds
  • Large display
  • Adjustable stem

CONS

  • The deck is shorter than most scooters

"Smooth-riding, peppy commuter"
"Love this thing. It's fun, sophisticated and practical all at once. The range is great for getting around most cities (25 - 30 miles seems realistic based on my first ride). Acceleration is great and you can reach 25 mph pretty quickly. Suspension is fantastic and has turned what used to be a pretty jarring ride into smooth commute. The dashboard is the icing on the cake. It looks amazing and is really useful. Some other pros - 1) quick-release handlebars make collapsing this a breeze, 2) built-in back carrying handle, 3) automatic brake lights on *both* brake handles, and 4) built-in USB port for charing accessories."

The Fluid Horizon might be what you should choose if you have a longer commute, crave good ride quality, and don't want to worry about rear punctures.

It comes with two versions of battery where the V2 is the bigger capacity one. It has a 48V 13Ah battery pack good for 30 miles (48 km) of range.

A 500W/800W peak power rear wheel motor delivers modest acceleration up until around 8 mph (13 kph) where it comes alive and starts pulling stronger up to its top speed of 23 mph (35 kph).

It is very strong uphill and only the steepest inclines will make it run a bit out of puff getting closer to the top.

This is a very comfortable and practical e-scooter with a good suspension system, an 8.5-inch front wheel and an 8-inch solid rear tire.

Rear drum brake plus adjustable regen braking on the rear wheel only, means that the stopping distance is a bit longer than on an air-filled tired one and you might skid easier if you are not careful.

It only weighs around 40 lbs (18 kg). A clever folding mechanism makes it a perfect entry-level scooter for your daily commute with a telescoping stem and folding handlebars as well.

So if you are looking for a workhorse with good top speed, strong uphill, portable and with a good mile range and never have the risk of running a flat on the rear, then this could be the one.

PROS

  • Long range
  • Very practial
  • Fun to ride

CONS

  • Board deck is a bit narrow

"Great product, fast ride, reliable commuter!"
"Been using the Horizon for a couple of months for a 4-mile commute to work each day. After 200 miles, it's going strong. Several people have stopped me on the road to ask about how it works, and are impressed with the power and 25-mph speeds. Tires stick to the road like glue. With my backpack, I'm about 250lbs and it only struggles on the very steepest hills, but a quick manual kick gets me over the top. I would buy a second one, but I can't imagine I'll need to because the one I have is so reliable. Thanks!"

A favourite electric scooter that manages to look cool as well. Best suited for super smooth surfaces, the WideWheel Pro offers a great ride with some high-performance features, mile range being one of them.

It's difficult to ride this e-scooter slowly. It's too much fun accelerating all the time, but obviously, that saps energy. But even if you gun it repeatedly with the dual motor option connected, it will still give you 20 miles (32 km) before it needs a battery charge which takes 8-9 hours.

Dual 500W/1600W peak power motors accelerate very fast if not head snapping and have a top speed of 26 mph (42 kph). It is very able and strong uphill as well.

If you can preserve yourself, activate cruise control, and ride in eco mode at 18 mph (28 km/h), as well as engage the kick-to-go start, it will give you closer to 30 miles (48 km).

This is a sporty option for tarmac only. Forget about gravel or any type of dirt trails. The 8 x 3.9 inches (20 x 10 cm) wide solid tires have a unique feeling that reminds you of snowboarding a bit. A carving sensation if you like. And the tires do flex quite a bit. Press your thumb into them and you can feel it. This helps with the overall ride quality as the dual suspension is a bit stiff.

The Pro now has dual mechanical 120 mm disc brakes with excellent stopping power. A big improvement from the original Widewheel with its single rear disc brake that left a lot to desire. Both stem and handlebars fold and it is quite portable fitting easily into most cars' trunks, even smaller ones.

Max weight capacity is 220 lbs (98 kg) and it weighs 54 lbs (24,5 kg).

Fabulous! Even though it does not compromize.

PROS

  • Powerful acceleration
  • Eco mode for extra range
  • Brilliant looking

CONS

  • Folding mechanism can be tricky to get used to

"Awesome WideWheel Pro 2020"
"OMG - this scooter exceeds all expectation!! So we’ll made, heavy duty in fact. The only thing remotely critical might be it’s weight, but that was forecasted and in being heavily and well made - that’s likely hand in hand!! Otherwise I’d buy it again. Already have 60 miles in it and I love it - my kids do too. Great purchase."

You would never believe that this ultraportable lightweight e-scooter which at a glance looks more like a regular kid kick scooter, is capable of a 25+ mph (40+kph) top speed and 22 miles (35 km) of range.

This is a game changer and sets a new benchmark for what can be expected from such a light electric scooter.

It only weighs 29 lbs (13 kg) yet still manages to house a 500W/700W peak power motor on the front wheel and a 48V 9.6Ah battery pack. Recharging takes 5 hours.

It even has a dual suspension system which does improve the ride quality from the solid tires. It will handle bigger bumps without any problem but don't expect a pool table smooth ride on rougher surfaces.

But the buyers of the Mosquito will not care as this is an inner city commuter that feels like you can carry in your back pocket, whip out and shoot off at great speed.

A front-wheel adjustable electric brake that also recharges the motor while you ride, rear drum brake and a step-on rear fender brake is all you need to stop properly as well.

When folded it only measures an astonishing 13 x 6 x 42 Inches (33 x 15 x 106 cm).

And we have managed to make the deck roomy as well. Plenty of space for your feet.

This is a great scooter, if not the best for the inner city commuter or beginner, who must be able to stow away and carry it. It has an adequate lights package, the acceleration is smooth and easy to handle, the stem can also be adjusted to suit a taller rider and it even has a horn.

A Mosquito indeed, small yet packing a big punch.

PROS

  • Ultra light weight
  • Eco mode for extra range
  • Brilliant looking

CONS

  • Folding mechanism can be tricky to get used to

"Great Ride"
"I have a onewheel and wanted another electric ride for friends to join me. The Fluid Mosquito is awesome! It is light, fast, and sturdy. I would recommend this to anyone looking to have fun outside!"

When it comes to high-quality e-scooters, Inokim sets a benchmark few can rival. The Light 2 is an ultraportable inner city commuter that offers unique and great design specs as well as different colour options.

At 30 lbs (13 kg), portability is as good as it can get and it will still deliver a range of up to 20 miles (32 km). The manufacturer claims 15-20 miles (24-32 km) and in real-world conditions on quite steep inclines, it easily managed 16 miles (26 km).

A rear-wheel drive 350W/500W peak power motor is not gonna set any acceleration or top speed records but it was never meant to.

21 mph (34 kph) of top speed is good enough for plenty of riders and as the Light 2 is meant as an inner city commuter you will not need much more.

The power unit is a 36V 10.4Ah battery pack and recharges in 5-6 hours.

A very low deck means it is super stable and easy to ride although with such a low ground clearance there will be no curb hopping.

It lacks suspension but has 8.5-inch air-filled tires where the rear is a "never run flat" one. Dual drum brakes are one of the best on any ultraportable you can find.

It weighs 30 lbs (13,6 kg) and folds into a neat package measuring 37 x 9.8 inches (94 x 25 cm). The build quality is excellent as expected with Inokims products.

It is definitely one of the best commuter scooters on the market today.

PROS

  • Lightweight
  • Multiple color options
  • Clever Display

CONS

  • Power somewhat limited

"Light 2 delivers on promise"
"The Inokim Light 2 was not my first choice. The online research changed my mind — specifically the mechanics of the folding mechanism and the speed-to-mileage ratio. Rides beautifully. 21 mph and about 20 miles per charge. Unexpected benefit? It the air-filled tires provide for magnificent and zippy gliding. A tad heavy to carry folded, but that’s off-set by the folding handlebars that make for very easy closet storage. My only complaint is that the cap that covers the charging port doesn't always snap back into place easily. Overall, very happy."

Long Range City Commuting

You might not need a 20-30 plus miles range commuter if you travel mostly inner city and especially if you can't recharge it at work. Other things are probably more important to make your everyday commute as comfortable as possible.

For more options on great commuters check out our guide for: "The best electric scooters for commuting"

Long Range Off Road Electric Scooter

If you plan on going on a lot of long distance off roading, then other things are important apart from mile range when choosing an off road e-scooter.

Choice of tires, the suspension system (is it adjustable), proper braking system, shock absorbers, and powerful motors to name but a few.

For more info on off road electric scooters, check out our blog: Best off road electric scooters

Long Range Electric Scooter Batteries

The battery is, of course, the heart and power source of the electric scooter. Why some e-scooters are more expensive than others, has a lot to do with the quality of the battery.

Lithium-ion batteries are the preferred option on proper e-scooters as they have excellent energy density and longevity.
Lead-acid batteries are also used but typically on cheaper scooters and also those more intended for kids.

Temperature is a factor that will quickly make a lesser quality battery die down if it gets slightly colder.
