Your needs - Why do you need an off road electric scooter?

To answer the question above, you need an off-road electric scooter if you’re going to be riding on rough bumpy surfaces. Not everybody lives in the inner-city with relatively smooth paved roads. Your commute might take you through forests, trails, or dirt roads. And if you are looking for fun weekend riding in the outdoors, a quiet and "green" off-road vehicle can be super fun.

If you want to hit the mountains or forests, and rip it up (with safety gear on of course) then any of the Wolf versions is what we recommend.

You can still use them for everyday things like popping down to the shopping mall and so on. But to see it come alive, you need to tackle obstacles that look near impossible on an electric scooter.

However, if you’re going semi-off-road, with varying terrains and not too many rocks and jumps, then a scooter like the Mantis Pro V2 or Apollo Phantom V2 would be ideal.

Here are the 10 Best Electric Scooters for Off-Roading

We have gathered what we think are the best electric scooters for hardcore off-roading as well as "softer" off-roading in the list below.

Each of these is in the bigger category of e-scooters as components and construction need to be able to handle some rough stuff and still provide a comfortable ride. That means proper suspension systems, bigger tires, bigger brakes, bigger batteries and sturdy frames.

We will include an IP rating (if given by the manufacturer) as going off-road will mean exposure to dust and other particles. That might not be a huge issue for an innercity commuter but if you plan on riding a lot on dirt and other surfaces than tarmac, it might be good to know how protected your choice of e-scooter is.

IP is short for Ingress Protection and is an indicator of how well the inner components are protected from moisture, dust or other similar particles that can penetrate parts of the scooter.

Not all manufacturers inform of their product's IP rating. That doesn't necessarily mean it isn't protected but it is wise to understand the differences.

A great electric scooter that should be on the shortlist is the Nami Burn E2 Max. NAMI aims to deliver the best possible scooter experience for its customers and they are happy to do some lateral thinking to achieve this. The original Burn E was based on community feedback and requests from thousands of riders and the Burn E2 max is an evolution of that very popular electric scooter.

More an all-terrain scooter than an outright off-roader the Burn E2 max has a fantastic ride quality with adjustable front & rear hydraulic coil-shock suspension which is one of the best to be fitted to an electric scooter.

Unlike the Wolf King, it is a single-stem scooter which cant achieve the same stability as a double-stem. However, an adjustable steering dampener significantly reduces stem wobble and for the Max, this is a perfect solution.

It is fast with a top speed of 60 mph (90 km/h). And zero to 30 mph (48 km/h) will be just under 4 seconds.

That is all possible from dual 1500W/8400W peak power motors and 50A sinewave controllers. 90 miles (145 km) of range is possible due to a large Li-ion 72V 32Ah battery if you ride in eco mode and keep yourself restrained from going full throttle all the time. If you can't, then you should still be able to get 50 miles (80 km) of range. 7-8 hours recharge time.

Fully hydraulic 160mm LOGAN disc brakes with big pads mean that you will be able to stop as impressively as you can go fast. They will bring you to a complete stop from 15 mph (24 km/h) in 9 feet (3 m).

Some other upgrades on the E2 Max are waterproof connectors, four-piston hydraulic brakes, improved charging ports, improved turn signals and a wider handlebar.

11-inch air-filled tires and that great suspension system are a recipe for a very comfortable ride and with the Nami Burn E2 Max, you can go riding off-road, hill climbing, jumping off kerbs and know that you have one of the best-built scooters the market can offer.

This is not a scooter for beginners though. It weighs just under 100 lbs (45 kg) has a lot of power and is not a budget scooter. Considering what it offers though as far as customization, power curves, acceleration, suspension and braking etc, yet is still under five figures it is one of the best electric scooters in its segment today.

Finally, the Nami Burn E has an IP55 rating which means it can be ridden during any weather.

PROS

  • Excellent & Unique Design
  • Off road & road tires available
  • Very long range

CONS

  • Not one you carry around

"Awesome scooter so far."
"This thing is very well built, compared to all the other scooters I’ve ridden. The suspension is really good as you’ve most likely heard. The lights are awesome and bright. I read a bunch of people online talking about the terrible condition of the box and sometimes the condition of the scooter upon arrival to peoples doorsteps. But at least in my case, it arrived in great condition and not even a dent in the box. So far I’m loving this scooter and happy I bought it."

The name says it all, doesn't it? King. Someone has to be. Going straight to the top and asking for the best off-road scooters in the world will land you here. The King is an update of the already brilliant Wolf GT Pro and it takes a trained eye to spot the differences. Riding them will make you feel it though.

The first sign upon seeing it, telling you that this is a rough terrain off-road electric scooter to be taken seriously, is the double stem motorcycle-grade hydraulic front shock absorbers.

A standout feature not only for its looks but also for performance. We are used to single stems on electric scooters and now we have this.

This is a heavy-duty electric scooter that will tackle off-road rides, crush hills with a grin and at scary speed as well. And that front fork with a relatively stiff set up dual rear spring suspension will make you feel sure-footed while doing so. It has excellent stability either on rough roads or on smooth surfaces. In fact, super stable.

This is as well as it should be considering this is the fastest production scooter for sale at the time of writing. The maximum speed you can get out of it is 62 mph (100 km/h). Upgraded sinewave controllers, dual 2000W/7200W peak power motors and a bigger 72V 35Ah battery are the power plant that produces all this performance. Acceleration is crazy if not scary and it will spin its' front and rear wheel regardless of the surface if you are not careful. It takes less than four seconds to reach 30 mph (48 km/h).

Recharging time is 13-15 hours or 5 hours with the use of an optional fast charger.

It might feel a bit intimidating with all that power under your thumb but the throttle curve is well mapped and you can keep it all under control. Or just choose the single motor mode for the starts. Easy done with buttons underneath your thumb. A longer stem and wider handlebars than the regular Wolf Warrior further enhance the feeling of stability.

But remember, you have to treat this King with respect and know your riding technique.

And you can travel very far on a single charge. In single motor mode and on the eco setting you should get 90 miles (144 km).

Front and rear fully hydraulic Zoom disc brakes as well as regenerative braking and ABS are on par with the rest of the performance of the scooter. It has astonishing stopping power. It only takes 9 feet (3 m) from 15 mph (24 km/h) to a complete stop.

Make sure you know how to brake properly and how to balance your body. Bend your knees, lean slightly backwards and stand with your feet as you would on a snowboard or a regular skateboard. One foot in front of the other. Never ever ride with your feet parallel. On any type of scooter.

Self-repairing 11-inch tubeless might sound like a pipedream but they do self-repair, which comes in handy on such a heavy-duty electric scooter.

The King is for the rider who knows what he wants and how to control it. It weighs 120 lbs (54 kg) so will not be an everyday commuter you bring on public transport. Think alternative to motorcycle yet still more practical.

The King is as good as it gets when it comes to powerful electric scooters with high build quality that can handle off-road rides with ease. It is the best offroad electric scooter at the time of writing.

PROS

  • Extreme power & top speed
  • Off road & road tires available
  • Motorcycle graded dual suspension
  • IPX5 Rating

CONS

  • Very heavy

The Wolf family with its various versions Warrior X, 11, Gt Pro and King GT Pro are all proper off-roaders sporting that double stem hydraulic front shock. Whichever you choose, you can rest assured you will get a ton of performance and the differences between them are not huge although noticeable. They are all considered among the best scooters in the world available on the market today.

The Warrior X is the one you should choose if you are looking for the Wolf package but on a budget as it is the cheapest of them.

In no way does that mean it is not worth every cent. Rather contrary. For some, this might be the best option as not all people need or even want the eyebrow-rising top speed of the bigger siblings.

The Warrior X is basically the same package, same high-quality build but lighter and less bulky at 79 lbs (36 kg). And you have a choice of two battery versions.

The standard "Street" model with a 60V 21Ah battery and a 40-mile (64 km) range or the "Pro" version with a 60V 28Ah and 52 miles (83 km) of range. Recharge time is 10-12/14-16 hours respectively or, you can add a fast charger and use both charging ports to reduce the charging time by 70%.

The Street is delivered with either 10-inch air-filled street or off-road tires and the Pro comes with 10-inch air-filled street tires.

Both versions have the same motor configuration and top speed. Dual 1100W motors and a 40 mph (69 km/h) max speed. Sinewave controllers also mean you have great and smooth acceleration. Zero to 20 mph (32 km/h) takes three seconds.

Even though it is 24 lbs (11 kg) lighter than the Warrior 11, it still tips the scale at 79 lbs (36 kg). But this in addition to it being easier to fold also means it will fit into many cars' trunks.

Fully hydraulic front and rear Zoom disc brakes stop on a dime and it also has a regen brake that recharges the battery whenever you brake.

Online experts hail the Warrior X:s ride handling to be one of the best in the world. That hydraulic dual front stem suspension and the polyurethane/spring combination work wonders. Total control in corners and over obstacles. And because of that front stem, you will have zero stem wobble.

The deck is slightly longer than on the Warrior 11, if only by a thumbnail, but it is also narrower which adds to the more sleek design. It still has plenty of space for your feet.

The handlebars also sit slightly higher which enhances the overall comfortable stance of the ride.

A fantastic electric scooter that can serve as a long-distance commuter, hill crusher, and weekend warrior for fun rides in less-than-perfect terrain be it the forest or other trails.

PROS

  • Strong Power to Weight Ratio
  • Incredibly Comfortable Ride
  • Great Stability & Comfort
  • IPX5 Rating

CONS

  • Very heavy

"Excellent in every way"
"The Wolf Warrior X is my 4th Scooter and is by far the best I've ever had. My previous scooter had dual 1200W motors but was not even close to the X with torque or top speed. The ride is magical as the suspension is top notch and service from Fluid was perfect. This is the best scooter you can buy for under $2,000"

Right below the King we usually find the prince. And so it is with the GT Pro. It is very close to the King in performance and some might say they are almost equal, but there are some differences.

The GT Pro has a slightly slower top speed of 50 mph (80 km/h) and massive acceleration just like the King. Zero to 30 mph (48 km/h) is reached in just under 5 seconds.

Dual 1200W/5400W peak power output motors and a 60V 35 Ah battery are behind all that power and the range is 60 miles (96 km) if you ride in eco mode. 7-hour recharge time or 4 hours with optional dual fast chargers.

The ride is rock solid due to that motorcycle-grade hydraulic double stem and front shock absorbers. Smooth mapping gives you total control of the thumb throttle and there are various ride modes to choose from as well as the possibility to customize controller settings and braking strength. All easily done while riding due to a perfect layout of controls.

11-inch air-filled self-repairing off-road or street tires are available upon delivery.

Fully hydraulic brakes with 160 mm disc rotors ensure that you will stop as effectively as you can accelerate. It has the same stopping power as the King and coming to a complete stop from 15 mph (24 km/h) only takes 9 ft (3 m). Make sure to practice your breaking technique as mentioned above. Of course, it also has configurable regenerative braking that recuperates energy and recharges your battery whenever you brake.

For heavier riders and proper off-roading, any of the Wolf's are the ticket. They all have a max weight capacity of 330 lbs (150 kg) and you will not feel them bog down under the weight. Hills are easily dealt with and the acceleration is still scary. Even if you are a big person.

PROS

  • Fantastic Brakes
  • Incredibly Stable at High Speeds
  • IPX5 Rating

CONS

  • Big & Heavy

"This was my first scooter purchase and I'm 6'1 245 lbs. Most scooters say 265 lbs, but when you put on shoes, helmet, and a backpack, it's easy for a guy my size to tip that scale so to speak. I've been riding this scooter for about a week and having a blast. I did a 12 mile round trip and it was still reading 100% battery. During that ride I only made it to 3rd gear using the rear motor and was still doing 30mph uphill. I did get the piece to extend the handlebars and that made a night and day difference for comfort."

NAMI also has an alternative to the top gun in their rostrum. The Burn E2 sits right below the Burn E2 Max in the NAMI hierarchy.

It has the same outstanding ride quality as the E2 Max and the same 90-mile (145 km) range due to a 72V 28Ah battery pack. 6-7 hours recharge time. Dual 1000W/5000W peak power motors give it a top speed of 45 mph (72 km/h).

The ride quality is raved about by online experts as one of the best you can experience on an electric kick scooter. It has the same adjustable front & rear hydraulic coil-shock suspension as the E2 Max. It allows you to set the scooter up as you wish according to your weight, the terrain and riding style. For off-road or rough road activity, this solution is spot on and the ride will be amazing.

Brakes and the ability to stop properly are of utmost importance on these high-performance scooters. No surprise then to find that the E2 is equipped with fully hydraulic LOGAN 160 mm disc brakes as well as an integrated electric brake. You will stop on a dime.

The BURN-E has a large, waterproof smart display which lets riders adjust many settings according to their preferences. Choose between five different riding modes which include a "turbo" mode for extra power. The acceleration strength on each motor can also be independently adjusted as well as the intensity of the electric brake.

Weighing in at 100 lbs (45 kg) and a max weight of 330 lbs (150 kg) it is well suited for some heavy riding. It sits on 11-inch tubeless air-filled tires.

PROS

  • Great sine wave controllers

The Wolf Warrior 11 was actually the first electric scooter that looked like it was purpose-built for off-road and that it came right out of a Mad Max movie. It was the first time we saw that motorcycle-grade hydraulic double stem and front shock absorbers.

We have since got the follow-up Wolf GT Pro and Wolf King GT Pro that you can read about above. But the Warrior 11 is still one of the best electric scooters for off-roading and tackling bumpy rough terrain available on the market now.

It comes equipped with dual 1200W/5400W peak power motors and a lithium battery of 60V/35 Ah. The top speed is 50 mph (80 km/h) and it has a 70-mile (112 km) range if you cruise economically. And yes, it does accelerate like a bat out of hell. Both tires will spin even on tarmac.

An optional choice of 11-inch air-filled off-road or street tires is available on delivery.

On a beast such as this, you don't want to mess about when it comes to stopping power. Fully hydraulic dual Zoom disc brakes and optional ABS are ready to reign in the beast. The brake feel is very smooth and you can easily come to a halt fully in control with the touch of a couple of fingers.

The suspension system and shock absorption are brilliant, with a proper front hydraulic version, and a spring at the rear.Front and rear wheel drive as well as the high torque provided makes climbing hills at 30% inclines possible as well as fun.

At 101 lbs (45 kg) it's not a portable scooter though it is foldable should you need to transport it by car to your destination.

Don't worry about the sun setting too much. All the Wolf's have two of the brightest front-mounted led lights we've seen on an electric scooter for maximum visibility, as well as two smaller front lights on the deck, underdeck lights, and brake light as well. And the loudest horn we have heard on an electric scooter so far, to make sure people can see/hear you coming. No "ringadingaling" bell here.

Always safety first though. Make sure to wear all possible protective gear before popping a wheelie on your way to the forest. Have fun!

PROS

  • Great Suspension system
  • Off road & road tires available
  • Very long range

CONS

  • Not one you carry around

"The wolf warrior 11

Fluidfreeride has been nothing short of OUTSTANDING with their customer service and quick response time. If the Wolf Warrior seems a bit too much X-games for you, and you would like a version of e-scooter able to use as a daily commuter as well as some chance for off-roading....the Mantis Pro V2 might tick your box. This is an excellent choice as a crossover tool.

An improvement of the popular first rendition of Kaabos Mantis base version, the V2 now has front and rear turn signals, an improved high-mounted headlight, an upgraded stem and IPX5 rating.

This is a fast scooter with a lot of power. Dual 1000W/3300W peak power motors mean a top speed of 40 mph (64 km/h) and very fast acceleration. Zero to 20 mph (32 km/h) is reached in 3.3 seconds. 35 % of inclines are easily dealt with.

It has an advanced front and rear spring arm suspension and together with the 10-inch air-filled tires the ride is as good as you can imagine. Superb. Riding over rough terrain or dirt trails is no problem for the V2 Mantis. Bring it on.

The range is equally impressive with a possible 45 miles (72 km) in single motor eco mode. A 60V 24.5Ah battery is the power plant of choice and a recharge takes 13-16 hours or 5 hours with the optional fast charger.

Fully hydraulic Zoom disc brakes and regen brake as par for the course on these performance scooters. It will stop from 15 mph (24 km/h) to zero in just under 9 ft (3 m).

It is foldable and weighs 65 lbs (30 kg) and has a max weight capacity of 265 lbs (120 kg).

The Mantis V2 feels and rides like a premium e-scooter yet it doesn't have a premium price tag. It might be the best choice of a "cross-over" scooter as it can be a daily commuter for shorter or longer distances as well as an off-road trailblazer for fun rides in the forest.

PROS

  • Great Suspension system
  • Off road & road tires available
  • Very long range

CONS

  • Throttle could be more ergonommic

"Beautiful design, smooth handling, perfect suspension, faster than anything I've ever been on like this. Skip the cheaper ones and get this model with the better battery. You wan't regret it. Absolutely the best design yet. I'm extremely pleased. The support team was also very attentive and helpful."

Feedback from thousands of riders was collected by Apollo in order to build the best possible scooter in its price range. Did they succeed? Many experts say yes. The result is an impressive package of high build and ride quality.

Here we have a scooter with a high top speed of 48 mph (61 km/h) yet the acceleration is not head-snapping. And many riders prefer that linear approach. It is no slouch though as zero to 15 mph (24 km/h) is reached in just under three seconds.

A 52V 23,4Ah battery means a 40 mile (64 km) range is within reach and dual 1200W/3200W peak power motors are strong uphill as well.

The ride quality is where the Phantom shines a bit brighter. All that feedback from riders has been put to good use and the result is great handlebar ergonomics, a big deck with lots of grip, an excellent thumb throttle, and an adjustable quadruple spring suspension system with great shock absorption.

And that suspension allows you to hit bumps mid-corner without sweating bullets. Riding over grass, dirt trails, and jumping curbs comes easy to the Phantom. It soaks it up.

There are three configurations of braking systems to choose from. Standard mechanical brakes, or fully hydraulic ZOOM or NUTT brakes. Whichever you choose, they all have 160 mm rotors and will stop equally effective. But the feeling is different and with these options, there is the possibility of choosing as per one's preference of brake feel.

The Phantom V2 is also an option for bigger riders as it has a weight capacity of 300 lbs (136 kg) and it sits on 10-inch air-filled tires.

This is one of the highest quality scooters available as Apollo is comfortable going the extra mile and putting in that effort needed to come up with something extraordinary.

PROS

  • Great Design
  • Excellent Display
  • IP54 rated

CONS

  • No front turn signals

"Apollo phantom was the first ever scooter I have ever ridden. I sure did pick a beast of a scooter! I can't get enough of it! At first it was a bit terrifying how fast the acceleration was and how sensitive the brakes are, but once I get used to it, I kept wanting to push the limits and unleash its power. My top brief speed I hit so far is 40.5 mph going downhill. I have taken it on a mountain bike trail and was surprised how well it handle with going over gravel and roots. The 4 suspensions on it make it easy to go over anything. The scooter is on the higher price but once you see and feel the power, you'll definitely understand that it's worth the money."

If you're not familiar with INOKIM - it is one of the original electric scooter brands and has been pushing the entire industry in a more advanced direction. They have been making electric scooters for over a decade and are considered premium design as well as quality.

The INOKIM OXO is their top-performance model. Typically INOKIM will prioritize long-term sustainability and quality as opposed to adding as much power as possible. Having said that, the OXO certainly has enough power with its dual 1000W motors. The top speed is 40 mph (64 km/h). And the 60V 26Ah battery is good for 52 miles (83 km) of range.

The acceleration is slightly different from other big powerful scooters though. You can press as hard and fast as you like on the thumb throttle, you will never get a head-snapping jerky reaction out of the OXO. Instead, it builds progressively and steady to its max speed.

It is a brilliant option of an e-scooter for trails and some off-roading if not an outright off-road monster. We would place it more in the league of the Mantis, or Apollo Phantom V2 than the "Wolfpack". If you are looking to go proper off-roading, the advice is to take another look at the Wolf Warrior or any of its' siblings. And make sure to grab the off-road knobby tires.

The INOKIM OXO has a unique feature compared to other competitors with its double single-sided swingarm making tire changes a lot easier. And from one side it looks stunning.

The ride quality is one of the best you could wish for on an electric scooter. A fully adjustable polymer front and rear suspension system work wonder for the ride and handling. Best in class suspension according to some experts.

And the brakes are as superb as the rest of the package. Fully hydraulic Zoom brakes will have that effect. At 74 lbs (33 kg) it almost feels lightweight compared to some other scooters mentioned here but it is quite big even so. It will accept a max weight of 265 lbs (120 kg).

INOKIM is all about high quality which is reflected in the price. Generally, a bit more expensive than the competition if you compare specs, but in terms of build quality and functionality, the INOKIM OXO will not disappoint.

"Just pick up an inokim OXO. Had a fantastic experience. Every scooter I was interested in (Apollo Phantom, Mantis Pro, inokim oxo) were in the showroom for demo. Edgar was a fantastic help, he went over every scooter with my son and I. Prices were great. Thank you Fluid Free Ride for being a class act company. Look forward to future dealings."

The OXO also has a smaller sibling apply named the OX. And there are two versions to choose from, the OX Hero/ OX Super.

Both have the same top speed of 28 mph (45 km/) even though the battery sizes are different. The Hero has a 60V 13 Ah battery with a 22 mile (35 km) range and the Supers bigger 60V 21Ah stretches that to 33 miles (53 km).

This is a zero-start scooter ensuring starts from a standstill won't scare the bejesus of anyone riding it. Once it reaches 15 mph it pulls stronger. The Ox is designed to be a steady commuter rather than a drag racer.

It has the same single-sided adjustable swingarm suspension as the bigger OXO and thus the same phenomenal ride quality. You can drop the suspension very low for maximum stability when going flat out.

A combination of a front drum brake and rear disc brake works well and effective. It sits on 10-inch air-filled tires. A slightly lighter e-scooter than many of the others on this list with its 61 lbs (28 kg) means it is easier to carry if needed. The max weight capacity is 265 lbs (120 kg).

The Ox is not an e-scooter for thrill seekers desiring massive acceleration and performance. It probably appeals more to the person with a great sense of attention to detail and exceptional build quality.

"The best e scooter ride .. The Inokim Ox gives you the best experience and smooth suspension with motor for fast speed. It has a tough - robust frame combined with sleek design and color: I recommend it to everybody to experience the best adventure of their lives. Thank u Inokim! Come on guys - Ride on.!"

For sheer all-around "badassness"....look no further than the Dualtron Ultra or it's bigger brother the Dualtron Thunder.

When you thought you'd heard and seen it all...here comes a kick scooter with a whopping heavy duty lithium battery capacity of 60V 35 Ah 2.1 kWh and dual motors of 2700 peak Watt!! It will reach an astonishing top speed of 50 mph (80 kph) if you dare to stretch it out all the way. 75 miles (121 km) range is also....badass. Of course depending on riding style and terrain. The whole kit just oozes of high quality.

The suspension is phenomenal by way of front and rear cartridge swingarms. Dual hydraulic disc brakes with ABS to halt your onslaught of speed. If you take this baby as your commuter, you will also have a high speed electric scooter that can handle off road activities. 11 x 4 inch tubeless pneumatic tires, works excellent providing good stability and a great riding experience.

Weight capacity is also....you guessed it.....badass... as it accommodates for riders as heavy as 330 lbs (150kg) and still provides high torque enough to make your eyes water. You can fold it, in order to manhandle it into the trunk of your car, if not a Fiat 500 that is, but it weighs 95 lbs (43 kg) so....if you can carry this around easily...then you are badass too.

Handlebars actually fold on this one which is always a plus. It's got a very wide 12 inch (30 cm) deck so plenty of space to plant your feet on. Led light display that covers the stem, front, rear, and underside of the scooter is also....yes mega. Really cool. Wireless phone charger, fingerprint scanner, turn indicators...and more.

45% inclines are doable and even though it is not specifically designed as an offroad only, but maybe more of a serious commuter weapon, it will manage off road activities very well as mentioned.

Price is also badass...at around 3500 USD. And, one usually gets what one pays for, but it's definitely on the pricey side.

Charge time is also of different variety depending on what charger you use. 20 hours with 2A charger, 10 hours with dual chargers, 5 hours with a quick charger, allows for optimizing your schedule in between races....sorry, commutes.

Weight Limit: 440 lbs / 199kgDisplay: LCD DisplayBattery Position: Under Board

The QiewaQpower is a viable purpose-built off road option to the WolfWarrior, and at a lower price. It looks less of a Madmax beast but nevertheless packs a respectable punch. The first thing that sticks out are the 11 inch tubeless pneumatic knobby tires. They are proper terrain tires that will handle most of what's thrown at them with a tread pattern that doesn't muck about.

Top speed is 50 mph (80 kph) and the speed with which it reaches that, beats most other e-scooters on the market. Acceleration is no joke. This makes it one of the fastest scooters available. This is not a scooter for beginners, and if you are one, then single motor mode is the way to go to get used to the power before using dual motor mode.

The only e-scooter that can match this one in climbing hills is the Wolf Warrior. If you live in an area with an undulating landscape and quite steep hills, you might need this. All this is possible due to its dual motor output of 3200W.

Dual hydraulic disc brakes of massive proportions in unison with adjustable electronic brakes... will send you flying over the handlebars, if you don't know what you are doing and have not yet perfected your braking technique. Lean backwards while braking.

Range is 30+ miles (48+ km) even when using a lot of power and not only in single eco drive mode and again, this sticks out as another brilliant feature.

Dual spring suspension in the front and hydraulic rear coil-over suspension provides a very well balanced riding experience. It has a weight capacity of 440 lbs! (199kg). For some (read overweight) people, who want to have some off roading fun, this, in and of itself will probably seal the deal.

It is foldable but still weighs 81 lbs (36.7 kg). So we wouldn't really call it portable, although hauling it into the back of one's car is possible.

Overall build quality is not top notch, it has to be said. Be prepared to properly go over it once you get it delivered and tighten everything up.

It has front lights, retractable kickstand as expected, and different setting modes for different types of rides.

If you want massive power, and you don't mind some of its shortcomings in the build quality area, but are looking for the best off road electric scooter for that price...then this is probably the one for you.

Where to begin? The Uberscoot is another one that demonstrates how versatile the area of e-scooters already has become. This looks like nothing else out there. The first thing that pops out is the optional quick-release seat. And as such, might be one reason for those looking for the best off-road electric scooter to satisfy their needs.

You get a choice of both worlds. The design seems to have had mostly teenagers in mind, but hey....who really cares? If it does the trick, it can be used by adults as well.

A 1000W 36 V battery will produce a top speed of 20 mph (32 kph) and deliver a 10 mile range (16 km) on a single charge. The battery takes between 4-8 hours to recharge which is quite good, considering most 1000W batteries take 12 hours.
One of the sturdiest bulkiest decks we've seen makes sure that feets are firmly planted while off roading, whether you choose to stand or sit.

It weighs 79 lbs (30 kg) so it is not overly heavy and should allow for portability if needed. The stem is foldable to help with that. 10 inch pneumatic tires are fine enough on paved streets and can handle gravel to a certain extent. But this is not a purpose-built terrain scooter, bear that in mind. Although it can handle some of that action.

Discbrakes front and rear, double front and rear shocks that look like they belong on a motorcycle, be it an old school version. Chain drive is also a feature that reminds us of motorcycles. Battery life is 250 cycles.

Twist grip throttle is a plus. Led head and taillights of course. All and all, it looks a bit Travis Pastrana and that was probably the purpose.

So yeah, maybe a choice primarily for teenage kids who will mostly ride on paved surfaces although on occasion some gravel and dirt. And with an option to sit down if legs and feet are a bit tired.

If you liked what you read about the Uberscoot, but hoped for an adult version, there is one. The Super 36V Turbo 1000-Elite Electric Scooter. Try saying that fast.

It looks very similar to the Uberscoot but it is an upgraded version. This one also has the same quick-release seat option which is a standout feature. It has a powerful 36V 12 Ah 1000W Lead acid battery that will recharge in 6-8 hours. Battery life is approximately 350 cycles.

Top speed is 27 mph (43 kph) and the range is 18 miles (29 km). As it's sibling the Uberscoot, it looks and is bulkier than what one is used to by now, but is still foldable, although it weighs 92 lbs (42 kg) so not exactly lightweight. But what to expect? It is, after all, a steel frame.

Sturdy suspension front and back and 10.5 inch pneumatic tires assure a smooth ride over some rough surfaces (if not too rough). Remember, this is also not a purpose-built off road scooter. Although it can handle some of that action.

Disc brakes front and rear, front LED headlight but nothing in the rear for some reason. Twist grip throttle also on this model for easy control of the scooter.

All in all, it sticks out as a bit of an odd bird in the adult electric scooter family, and the one thing that probably is its biggest advantage feature would be that option of sitting down. So if you really need that, then maybe....but for sheer off roading...there are better options.

If you are looking for an e-scooter to only use as an off roading toy, you don't intend to use it as a commuter, and high torque rather than high speed is of utmost importance, then you need to consider the Razor RX200.

It is specifically designed as an off road scooter and as such, has some really cool features. It has a chain driven motor with gear ratios specifically selected for high torque, rather than maximum speed, and so it only does 12 mph (19 kph).
Two 12 volt lead acid batteries will give you 40 minutes of fun, but then it will take a full 12 hours to recharge the battery system. Ouch.

Twist grip throttle and a hand operated rear disc brake, provides perfect control for sliding and drifting. High pressure pneumatic knobby tires combined with a steel frame and fork, will deal with rough terrain in ways other scooters will have a struggle with. It weighs around 45 lbs (20 kg) so no problem hauling it with you for the trek to the outdoors if needed, by car or other transport.

It has a retractable kickstand but that's about it. No messing about with other features as led lights, or other extras. The maximum weight capacity is 154 lbs (69.8 kg) so this one is not for bigger guys. But at an asking price of just below 300 USD, this might be the best cheap off-road electric scooter on the market now for the average person.

But if you take your off roading seriously, we wouldn't get your hopes up too much as the price tag speaks for itself in terms of the level of quality and performance.

What is an off road electric scooter?

Let’s look at the difference between an electric scooter used primarily for commuting, vs electric scooters designed to tackle off-road terrain.

When commuting, you want a scooter that is fast, compact, easily portable, and with long-range capability. Can an electric scooter have all of these features and still have off-road capabilities? The answer is yes, but there will be compromises. Weight will be the biggest difference since the need for a big battery as well as a sturdy construction can never be lightweight.

And electric scooters are just built differently for different purposes. For example, looking at the Cityrider as a commuting electric scooter, it weighs in at 22 lbs (9.9 kg) and folds down into a very compact package. You need it to be light and be able to carry it on the bus or train or even stored under a desk.

However, using the Wolf Warrior 11 as a benchmark for an off-road electric scooter, it weighs 101 lbs (46 kg), and although it is foldable enough to be able to fit into a trunk, one might say it is not as easily portable and compact as the Cityrider.

The Wolf is able to travel faster and further as well as tackle difficult terrain, hence the reason why it is bigger and heavier than the Cityrider.

When using an electric scooter for commuting, the Cityrider will in many ways be a better fit than the Wolf - so understanding the purpose of your intended use of your electric scooter is important.

An off-road electric scooter is fully capable of handling off-road terrain due to its solid build, powerful motors, high speed, and long-range capacity. Small additions to an e-scooter can make a significant difference. Some of these are included when you purchase an off-road scooter.

You need to ensure that the tires fitted on the e-scooter are appropriate for the task at hand. Some electric scooters are fitted with tubeless knobby tires, which are ideal for off-road, rocky, and unpredictable bumpy terrain. The uses for an off-road electric scooter are truly limitless. They are even being compared to motocross racing.

When you see the stunts and capabilities of an off-road electric scooter, you’ll not be surprised why this comparison has been made. And you’ll understand exactly why they need to be bigger and sturdier. Purchasing an off-road electric scooter is potentially a more affordable way to enjoy off-road activities. Due to the compact nature of the scooter, it can be a great way for everyone to be involved rather than just becoming a grease monkey!

FAQs

What to look for in an off-road electric scooter?

Since each electric scooter is unique, and you will likely use it for different purposes than others intend to, it is difficult to point out exactly what you need.

Find out what you’re going to be using it for. Leisure? Hunting? Racing? Getting to those idyllic spots that just can’t be reached by car? The possibilities are endless. What are you going to use your off-road electric scooter for?

Here are a few tips on things to look out for when comparing off-road electric scooters:

What is the range of an off-road electric scooter?

How far can it go before it needs recharging? Take note to see the clarification of the range. It will usually give you the maximum range driving very economically. If you constantly ride at maximum speed, it may not last the full range specified by the manufacturer. The battery will largely be responsible for the range, therefore the bigger the battery capacity, in theory, the further the electric scooter should be able to travel on one charge.

What is the top speed for an off-road scooter?

You need to know it's going to go fast! However, the top speed is generally not the most important aspect of off-roading. For instance, a scooter with a single motor and a smaller battery can have the same top speed as a dual motor scooter with a bigger battery. When going uphill and in rough terrain, the dual motors and more powerful battery will make a world of difference.

What tires do I need?

Many e-scooters will be delivered with a set of default tires. Sometimes you can specify which ones when purchasing. Make sure you get the ones best suited for your purposes. Road tires or off-road tires?

You can buy an additional set of tires to allow you to change between the two. Keep in mind, however, that changing the tire of an electric scooter may not be as simple as you might think, and you may need a mechanic to help, depending on your skill set of course.

What type of tires does it come with?

This may seem like a repetition of the above-mentioned, but this is focusing on the inside of the tire. Some scooters are fitted with conventional tires with innertubes, and some are tubeless. For off-roading, tubeless tires are recommended as you cannot get a puncture due to the design of the tire. When going over seriously rough terrain, that is the reassurance you’ll want.

What are the best brakes?

At a minimum, you’ll need both front and rear brakes. There are a variety of types of brakes out there and it seems each model has a different variation of its own. Hydraulic disc brakes are considered the best when reaching those fast speeds. For example, the Wolf has both front and rear hydraulic brakes. However, the Mantis’ top speed doesn’t quite reach that of the Wolf and therefore has dual disc brakes that are semi-hydraulic. The brakes will match the specification and performance of the electric scooter for the safest and most efficient combination.

What about suspension?

To get the best ride, you’ll need front and rear suspension. Some scooters may have a different type of suspension for the front and back - this is fine, just as long as it has both.

Do off-road scooters fold?

Pay attention to the folded dimensions of the scooter before purchasing. These scooters are beasts within their own right, and depending on what car you have, you need to ensure you can transport the scooter to where you want to ride. However, when considering the range capability of some off-road electric scooters, it may be possible to ride there and then go off-road. Unless you get a new car to accommodate your new scooter - there are plenty of options, just one aspect to take note of!

Are they dust and waterproof?

Yes - to a certain extent. If it’s raining or you ride through puddles and the scooter gets wet, that's fine. As long as it doesn't get completely soaked. For example, the Wolf has an IPX4 Water Resistance Certificate. This means getting it wet won’t damage it. However, you won’t be able to submerge it underwater. The same applies to dust. Due to the assembly, dust should not damage your scooter but regular cleaning and maintenance is advised.

What's the weight limit for an off-road scooter?

Each manufacturer will state the weight limit for their scooter. If you exceed this, the scooter will not perform as it should. When tackling those off-road hills, it won’t be able to handle them like it should if the weight limit is exceeded.

Check the reviews

Watch review videos, read customer reviews and blog posts comparing off-road electric scooters (like this one!). The truth is you’ll never know everything until you own one for yourself. However, you can ensure you’ll choose the best one for you if you do your due diligence and research before you buy one!

How much does an off-road electric scooter cost?

When doing your research and reading the reviews, you’ll notice that price may not get mentioned a lot, but is a factor to bear in mind.

Is it affordable? Off Roading is not a cheap activity. But when you compare the off-road electric scooters available to something like a quad bike or motocross, it suddenly looks very affordable in comparison.

The difference in price between models - You may notice that you get more for your money with one model over another. Sometimes this is due to the specification, but not always. Do your research!

Think outside the box - Even though it is good to ensure you get the best deal between comparative scooters, take a look at scooters that may be slightly more expensive. This will show in the specifications list. You might find that paying a little more, can be worth it long term.

Reputable retailer

The price difference between a branded well known and knock-off scooter can be minimal. However, you will reap considerably more benefits when purchasing from a branded, reputable company. Look for a retailer that offers support and handpick the models they stock. Since you are planning on going off-roading, you'll likely need to be able to have access to spare parts. The support service alone is invaluable and knowing you have a place to turn should you have any questions or concerns is recommended.
